1601-9. Christian convert Kuroda Yoshitaka gave Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi Himeji Castle which Hideyoshi rebuilds 1580. In recognition of Kuroda Yoshitaka's service, a roof tile of the rebuilt castle carries his family crest, a Christian cross. UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed 1993.
