Begun 1723. One of five such observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur and includes 13 massive astronomical instruments. Jai Singh wanted to combine the best of Eastern and Western scientific knowledge and invited European scholars to his court in Jaipur who brought him Western books.
